the second plus is converting the sign.  It is subtracted, the second plus
is being ignored."

I tried it Donal and you were rigth.  I did this:
c                   z-add     502.34        amount1
c                   z-add     0             amount2

c                   eval      amount2 = amount1 + + 7
c                             -500.00

c                   seton

And the result is now 9.34
