I think you may be referring to the DSPATR function where you can nominate
a field name to determine the display attribute type.  The code looks
something like this

A                  FLD1                   5A                    2   6DSPATR
(&PFLD1)
A                  PFLD1                1A    P

The hex code in PFLD1 determines the display attribute for FLD1.  There are
dozens of potential display attributes, so check out your DDS reference
under DSPATR for a full list.

[MST] How can I change the Attribute of a field on the Screen without using
