You could create your own variable, set a breakpoint on that statement,
change the variable manually, remove the breakpoint and run the rest of the
code.

Well, if the program is in debug mode, I want to send certain messages into

This seems like a bad idea.

If a program can determine if it's being debugged, then it could behave
differently under the debugger than it would in production.

This means that bugs could be introduced that are impossible to find when
using the debugger.   That really seems like a bad idea.

There must be some kind of problem that you're trying to solve?  Perhaps
we can suggest an alternative, if you told us why you're doing this?
