The value there would be 'TCHARACTER' and not 'CHARACTERS'. But I get the
concept and it should work. Thanks.

Another option....

DField            S             30    Inz('     TESTCHARACTERS         ')
D NewField        S             10
C                   EVAL      Newfield = %Subst(%Trimr(field) :
C                              %len(%Trimr(Field))-10 : 10)

This will work

D MYVAR           S             30    INZ('   thisisseveralcharacters   ')
D Field           S             10

C                   EvalR     Field = %TrimR(MYVAR)

MYVAR='   thisisseveralcharacters   '
I want store the right 10 nonblank characters into a new variable.
%trim will get rid of the leading, and trailing, blanks.

Nearest way I can figure to do this is to use a 10 character field as a
work variable and evalr the %trim of MYVAR into this. Any other
suggestions?
