OVRDBF renames the file, not the record format. For example if I do a

OVRDBF FILE(SOURCE) TOFILE(ROB/QPGMSRC)
DSPFD FILE(SOURCE)
File SOURCE in library *LIBL not found.
DSPFD FILE(ROB/QPGMSRC) TYPE(*RCDFMT)

WOW, Thanks for everybody's response...
but I'm getting a CPF error :-(
Since other people are working on this I'll go into it...
=============================
I created a source file called 'SOURCE' with a record length of 112 (just
so
my RPG would compile.)
=============================
Here's my CL (PGM1) w/override...
I manually feed it 3 parms of a good library, source pf and a program
source...
----------------------------
PGM        PARM(&LIBRARY &FILE &MEMBER)

DCL        VAR(&LIBRARY) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(10)
DCL        VAR(&FILE) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(10)
DCL        VAR(&MEMBER) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(10)

OVRDBF     FILE(SOURCE) TOFILE(&LIBRARY/&FILE) +
             MBR(&MEMBER) LVLCHK(*NO)

CALL       PGM(PGM2)

ENDPGM
================================
Here's my RPG program (PGM2) which compiles fine...
------------------------------------------------
fSOURCE    IF   E             Disk    Rename(SOURCE:SOURCE_FMT)

C                   DoU       %EOF
C                   Read      SOURCE_FMT
C                   If        Not %EOF
   * Do stuff here with the source record...

C                   EndIf
C                   EndDo

C                   Eval      *InLR = *On
================================
Here's the job log error which occurs on the Read statement...
---------------------------------------------------------------
call Pgm1 Parm('DEVJF' 'QRPGLESRC' 'TEST')
Record format SOURCE not in member TEST.
I/O error CPF5152 was detected in file SOURCE.
================================
Source member 'TEST' does exist in SRCPF 'QRPGLESRC' in library 'DEVJF'
================================
I must be missing something - or I've got something skewed...

Either way. If you use externally described, choose an RPGLE source file
(or similar) so that it will be the 'longest' record length you might be
apt to encounter.

when you do the override to the real source file, use LVLCHK(*NO). This
way, any file/record name and record length source file can be used,
without encountering problems.

name

yes, you will (if ext described).

glad to help.
