I wrote a program to go through our source files and grab all the comments
at the top before it hit a spec other than H that wasn't commented out.
Opening a source file in an RPG program (or even CL I guess) you get 3
different fields for each record.  Line number, source line, date.

It should be easy to write a program to do what you want, although from your
question, I don't quite understand what it is you're looking for.

It might even be interesting to write a logical file over a source file
keyed on date and line numbers.  Haven't tried that, but something like that
might give you what you want without having to create your own file.  Or
even just run SQL on the source member.
