This WOULD actually generate a multi-format logical, which most certainly
can be read in as a merged view. I suspect that the product just cannot
handle multi-format files. If I read the question correctly, a join logical
wouldn't be appropriate either as this will just create a single record for
both files. If the field names and format names were the same then you
could create a single logical file format which is based upon two physical
files, but I don't think this is possible where these differ.
