David:

You helped me not too long ago with ISE directory processing. Maybe I am kind
of confuse here but I DO NOT have the stream file physically on the AS400 and is
not defined in anyway on the RPG program. I am NOT doing open, read, close to the
source. What I was referring to is that I am reading the directory path and I
am reading the valid link of the source I have to read but that is it. I do
not know how to get into the source and check for these strings...from the RPG
program and without creating a copy of the stream file on the AS400.

Please let me know if I have confused you more than I am...

The value that you are retrieving from the READ(), do a %SCAN on it..

I am doing ( open(), read(), close() ), but how I can retrieve that
content?
Interactively, I can use EDTF and on the CONTROL line I can use either "F"
or
"FIND" to find a string or constant. That is the kind of results I want to
programmatically have in my program.

How I do that?

One idea, could be to retrieve the contents of each file( open(), read(),
close() ), and to a %SCAN on it.
This may not work with EXTREMELY large fields..

Guys:

I have to look for this parameters on every single CGI source I have in a
specific folder. I do have an RPG program reading the directory links of
that
folder without problems. Having that address link, the question is: How
can I
"search" for these "CONSTANTS" on a specific CGI source but without
creating a
temporary work file on the AS400? I think that I would be able to solve my
problem by doing just what I have said before but I have received
specifications
to explore the possibility of not creating a file and do this within the
program.

I appreciate your advices as always.

Thanks.
