Jim,

I think your NOT %Subst will not evaluate unless you use ()s to isolate the
boolean expression.

You're asking ((NOT A) = (B)), which cannot be evaluated unless A is a
boolean value. Expressing it as (NOT (A = B)) would work, since the boolean
expression is evaluated first, the NOT operation has a boolean value to work
with.

Subject: What's wrong with this %SubSt call? Looks fine to me.

     DThisLine         S           1024A   Varying

 /free
              DoW ( NOT %EOF(Source) ) AND ( NOT %Error ) AND
                    ( NOT %SubSt( %TrimL(ThisLine): 1: 2) = '/*' );
RNF7421S Operands are not compatible with the type of operator.

The %SubSt is highlighted as the error. What is wrong with this code?

I changed %TrimL(ThisLine): to 'XXX': to test, and same error.

Is RPG trying to do an assignment instead of a comparison? What am I doing
wrong?

Regards,

Jim Langston
