Jade, you say your window programs are stand alone programs. Does that mean
another program is calling the window program?

If so, try creating a record format in your window DDS with the ASSUME
keyword and a character field positioned somewhere unobtrusive. In
addition, specify KEEP in the calling program's display file. I
successfully employed this technique to solve the same problem when my
window program was called from another program.

Hope that helps.

I wrote some new programs, using ILE concepts (not that that has anything to
do with it), and suddenly we have the problem of the window format clearing
the remainder of the screen.

All our windows are stand-alone display file/programs.
