Phil,

The problem is small integer and 4 digit binary look the same on the physical
file (2 byte binary data)

The DSPFFD while show a 2 byte binary field as a 4 digit binary field

Prompt this same field within ISQL and it is a Small Integer
Operations Navigator will show this field as a Small Integer

Place this in your h-spec in your RPG program and they will see 2 byte binary
as small integer and 4 byte binary as Integer
 H EXTBININT(*YES)

AND work with them as (5 I 0) and (10 I 0)

A small integer WILL hold 32767
A Integer WILL hold 2147483647

I can work with these data types successfully with RPGLE and SQL

NOT

the DAM SQL pre-compiler

The file created with CREATE TABLE defines the INTEGER data type as 9B 0.

Try it out, then do DSPFFD.

I don't think it's the precompiler.
