Honestly, I cheat and use data structures. But at that time I am only
concerned with positive integer values. This question comes up on the list
on a weekly basis.

Who is going to whip up the FAQ? I've not used the new functions for this.

Is there a better way, besides move, to evaluate a numeric zoned field
into
character?
If I use %char(field) I get the first 0 truncated.
field = 02015
    eval pxxfield = %char(field)
the result is '2015' and I want it to be '02015'.

Thanks for your time and help.
