I missed this thread until I came across a recent post. The thread seems
to have drifted quite a bit. You might look at the DB2 XML extension. It
provides some user defined data types and functions that work with
simple conversion. If you do need to parse the documents, Java is a
better bet than RPG although it can be done. With Java, I would look at
JDom because it is far simpler.

As Andrew said, if you just need a few elements it may be easiest to
pick them out of the document yourself. If the XML document is an IFS
file, you might try downloading some IFS procedures I packaged up at
http://iseries-toolkit.sourceforge.net. I have used those procedures to
create, read, and process XML documents that did not benefit from a full
validating parser.
