Do you have a printer that can handle magnetic ink? Special paper for the
magnetic ink?

Here's the story. I've been trying to find the answer to this question for
3 weeks. I have contacted over 50 businesses, clubs, individuals and
organizations with no useable answer. My company wanted to get away from
preprinted checks but we have a limited budget in our IS department. So we
created our own bank check template in Microsoft Word and uploaded to the
AS/400. We use RPG, The template we uploaded combined with our DDS prints
the Checks perfectly on our HP LaserJet 5si. The only thing left is to have
the MICR code print at the bottom of the check.

We were under the impression that we could just buy a MICR font, load it to
the AS/400 and use the font in our DDS. NO one and I mean no one has been
able to tell me if there is such a thing as a MICR font that you can load to
the AS/400 and then be able to use it in your DDS. I thought it would be a
popular font, I guess I was wrong. Can anyone tell me if such a font
exists. If one does exist is there any special DDS coding you need to do
when using a MICR font? Also noticed there are special characters
separating the check number and the bank account number in the MICR code,
any light on how these special characters are printed?

If there is no such font we can buy does anyone have an alternative approach
we can take. Don't want to buy a lot of software. I mean we have the
entire check just the way we want it except for the MICR code. Someone said
we could get software for the HP printer to accommodate the font but what do
I code in my DDS to let the printer know.

ANY HELP ON THIS SITUATION WILL PUT ME IN YOUR DEBT TILL THE END OF TIME.
