The 2nd is easier to read, but none of them look possible :))

My point is not whether a complicated if statement looks better of worse using
continuation characters or not. The "current" (ILE RPG V4) calculation 
statements has
continuation characters for multiline statements, and there's nothing that
requires you to select your first sample statement over the second when using
continuation characters.

In my program the eval's heavily outweighs the if's, and since IBM selected : 
(colon)
to separate parameters, adding semicolons to all statements does not improve
readability (IMO).
