Yes, you are incorrect, though you did make me doublecheck! If you specify
USEADPAUT(*NO) on a program, it will not use any adopted authorities of
programs higher up the stack.

Im having to look back through my manuals/notes etc, but I think that is
incorrect. I believe (stress believe, very possible I am wrong) that even with
this parameter set to *NO, the called program falls under the umbrella of the
calling program with respect to adopting owner authority.

Which is why you when you change the program to adopt authority, you should
ensure that any called programs not requiring any adopted authority have the
USEADPAUT parameter set to *NO.
