Peter, companies with more diverse settings manage to keep standards in
place and benefit from them. It isn't easy, but the overall benefit is big.

Sure there are many obstacles. The first obstacle is the willingness of
those involved.

But I don't think it would be a good idea to try and go rewrite all the
existing code into the newly adopted standards! That would sure kill a lot
of man hours!

More, you would adopt new standards and a timetable for implementing them.
The idea being that in five years or ten years the evolution of the code
base would make it far easier for programmers to deal with. Otherwise, in
five years or ten years, it will be harder to deal with and more and more
time will be spent dealing with the issues of non-standard code.

What if JD Edwards or SAP didn't follow any development standards? If it is
a benefit to them, could it possibly be a benefit to you?
