John,

Imagine if all of your souce members for a given program were listed like methods/classes in VAJ.

And all of your programs for an application were within a project.

And imagine if you could prompt for subprocedure calls like you can for method calls.

And each subprocedure was “verified” as VAJ does the incremental compile.

Instead of exporting to a jar file, you export to a program object.

Visual Age for RPG can create java classes out of RPG.  Imagine if this was taken a step further and was made available in the “upcoming” version of WDTS.  By using embedded sql, you could conceivable write crossplatform rpg that was compiled into java.

And if those embedded sql statements were in their own subprocedures – would that be an enterprise RPG bean?

My God this could be the next killer app.

Phil,

I've heard from a reliable source that work is being done to make WDT/400 into more of a cohesive product. While no details were offered, I'm hoping that it will include some type of a source repository.

I'm grateful that IBM is putting so much effort into the WDT toolset. They've provided a lot of functionality in a short period of time for us. Unfortunately, the overall product "feels" just like what it is; a handful of radically different tools that were thrown together under a single brand name. I'm hoping for something much more integrated and balanced in a future release.

FYI to everyone – I’ve gotten about 10 emails with the W32.Badtrans.13312@mm virus in the last hour.  They all have part of various postings made to the midrange forums.
