SQLRPGLE and "optimize for"

How does the "optimize for" clause work on a select statement?  When writing
to a subfile using sql, if a file has 100,000 records in it, and the select
statement includes "optimize for 36", does this keep the cursor from loading
all 100,000 records to memory?
