That's exactly why they're more or less forbidden.  Management decided that
it was easier to insure that it would never happen, than trying to teach
people how to avoid the cursor surprise.  It's the same reasoning that
forbids any new techniques on the basis that no one will understand them.

Kind of ties in with your "good enough" rant.
