you need a dummy format in the called program's screen with the keyword 
ASSUME.  You don't have to use the format in the program but it has to be in 
the file.

if you exit the second program with LR *OFF you may have a problem with the 
background when you display the second program's screen the next time - it 
may revert to what it was the first time the program was called.  If so you 
can put the display file under user control and open and close it as you 
enter and exit the second program.
