Russell,

The one that I have found makes the most difference is FORCE_JOIN_ORDER.  If 
you have 
the SMP option on your system you might change try PARALLEL_DEGREE, if you have 
this 
option, it is probably already on.  Is your query building any access paths?  
Is it building an 
temporary file?    Another big point that I forgot to mention is that 
specifying select *, is 
a lot slower in most cases than select field1, field2, etc.

I analyzed the optimizer messages while in debug.  I've also explored several 
guides
in regards to performance of SQL, but I have been leery of making changes to 
the query
options file.  Any recommendations on those changes?
