RPG is the right tool to use for a CGI language if you already know RPG and
your data resides on your AS/400. I have not done scientific tests for
speed concerning web-serving on the AS/400 but I know that you don't want to
serve a heavily used page off of a 170.

Use the Data Base on the AS/400! That is the beauty of using RPG-CGI is you
can CHAIN to your files just like you always have. If you stick your data
on a Unix server or something you might as well use Perl or PHP to serve up
your pages.

Subject: Web?

Hi all,

I was just looking at Mel's CGI website. It's very cool!

Does anyone have any experience, or know that it's being implemented in real

business world -- using CGI with RPG -- besides Mel's easy400 site?
Is it recommended, in terms of performance?

We just want to learn to put some front end applications to the Web, so
we want to know our options.
The other thing, what database usually used? Is it on the server -- acts
like a web server? -- or should it resides on the host -- AS/400?

Thank You,
Jean
