Yes, we purchased the IBM FAX/400 product from IBM. I believe the cost was
around $400. Not bad. The IBM Support Line people were wonderful at getting us
up and running very quickly.
We are using Optio Software and IBM Fax/400 (they work together with the SNDFAX
command), to fax our invoice forms automatically. The Optio/IBMFAX400 setup is
pretty sharp, and the only time someone has to touch it, is when a fax fails. A
fax will occasionally fail due to a fax line being busy or wrong fax number. To
resend a fax is a breeze, you just go to the error output queue and take option
#1 to re-fax, plug in the fax number and press ENTER.

You heard wrong. You have to purchase the Facsimile 400 product extra to
get it with your OS/400.
DSPSFWRSC
5798TBY-IBM Facsimile Support for AS/400

This will give you the SNDFAX, SBMFAX and a few other options.

It has a goofy Program number, 5798 versus 5769, because it is called a
PRPQ. In theory PRPQ's are sometimes absorbed into the base operating
system. However this has been a PRPQ for a long time.

You'll hear about alternative products. Many of them will require an
external PC. Ask the vendors if they:
-Support the new 8 port card for sending and receiving of faxes
-Support the ISDN card for routing of inbound faxes.
-Have a printer driver so that anyone can print direct from Word or any
other application and have the faxes automatically send
-Support the IBM 7855 fax/data modem often used for ECS if you want to do
low volume on the cheap. (Better have the right modem.)
-Require an external PC.

I believe I heard that fax support was included as part of OS/400. If so,
I'm looking for anyone with experience utilizing it with RPG
generated reports. We are on V4R4 at this time.
