If you want to use arrays, you can overlay the name and the array in a data
structure.  You don't need to program describe the "overlay."  Barbara
posted an elegant solution using CHECKR and SUBST that doesn't require an
array, but it may not be apropos in S/36 based code, depending upon how
strict her management are regarding the "level of knowledge" required to
maintain it.  After all, they won't allow RPG IV because it's too difficult
for their current programmers to understand.
