Are you sure that none of the formats share lines on the display?

Since OVERLAY will not stop a format from clearing the screen if it occupies 
lines already in use, yet the first time all the screens display properly and 
doing no processing causes the screens to display properly, I wonder if there 
is an indicator set on during the READC processing that causes one of the 
record formats to occupy more lines than it normally does.  It may be as 
simple as an extra attribute that wraps from the end of one line to the start 
of the next.
