Paul Tuohy's book "Re-Engineering RPG Legacy Applications" (get it through
MIDRANGE.COM) ISBN: 1-58347-006-9 takes you through an RPG/400 application
and walks you step by step to converting it to "native" ILE RPG IV. By
that, I mean he goes through changing a CALL to CALLP, uses BIFs and
subprocedures, then creates a service program and includes that too. Along
the way he visits triggers and RI as well as APIs.

Much of the book is code, and an included CD has the code in various stages
of re-work. If you walk through each "conversion," you'll get a sense of
what decisions need to be made when moving up to RPG IV and ILE.

If you're (say) a Pascal programmer moving directly to RPG IV this won't do
you much good...
