Try XLATE (Translate), works for me....

Example:
 D UP              C                   CONST('ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ')
 D LO              C                   CONST('abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz')
  *    Convert the Upper Case to Lower Case
 C                   EVAL      RESULT = *Blanks
 C        UP:LO         XLATE     DESCP         RESULT
 C                   EVAL      DESCP  = RESULT

I am looking for an easy way to convert an alpha field to all upper case
characters.

anyone have any suggestions?
