Hai all
Is there a way to retrieve the names of all the memebers of a physical
file using a CL or an RPG program, by just giving the Physical file name as
parameter.

TIA

DSPFD FILE(LIBRARY/FILENAME)
           TYPE(*MBRLIST)
           OUTPUT(*OUTFILE)
           OUTFILE(LIBRARY/FILENAME)

That will create you a file with all the information you need for what you
are doing. You will then have to read the file in order to get all the member
names. Do a DSPFFD after creating the OUTFILE and it will show you the
location of the member name.

You could have the RPG or CL program do the DSPFD command and you can read
the file and store the member names in both CL or RPG.

Depending on your needs and experience I would just make the CL create the
file and have the RPG program do the grunt work. Although, I have made CL
programs that do it all.

Either way ...
