The two data structures do not have to be exactly the same length.  The
second data structure can be *shorter* than the first data structure without
any problem.

OTOH, making the second data structure *longer* than the first data
structure is a problem, just like having a parameter on a *entry plist that
is longer than the data being passed; if you access beyond the length of the
original data, who knows what is there.  And if you change it, you can hose
your program in all sorts of interesting ways that can be extremely hard to
track down.

Fortunately with the data structures this is less likely to happen because
it's all in one program.
