I agree that the semi-colon is nuisance. I'm already wondering how many
times I'll have to recompile because I forgot a ';' at the end of a line.

I prefer the GOTOs to go away. A couple of years back I taught some
programming classes. While teaching I told them NOT to use GOTOs. Of
course, some of the brighter students learn to use it and show the other
students how many nested IF - ENDIFs they avoided. They're reason for using
it, "It's easier." True, but they are the brighter students. They are the
ones that understand structured code. They see the advantage of getting
around the nested IFs. When the others start using GOTOs, they have GOTOs
going everywhere, into the middle of IF statements or the middle of DO
loops, etc. (real spaghetti code). And these students do get jobs. Future
development will benefit from eliminating the use of GOTOs. As far as being
compatible with the GOTOs currently being used, who knows when some of
these companies will utilize RPG V. By the time they do it will probably be
time to revisit their development techniques (unless they've already bought
an ERP on a different platform in a different language).
