Define Null before PN and the statement Eval dh = OpenDir( PN ) will not
work. It only works because PN is null terminated do to the way you defined
your constants.

From the Help Text:

*STRING means that you can pass character strings where a basing
pointer is expected. When a pointer parameter is prototyped
with OPTIONS(*STRING), then either a pointer or a character
expression can be specified as the passed parameter. If a
character expression is specified, then the compiler will copy
the value of the expression to a temporary pointer and add a
null-terminator at the end. Then it will pass the address of
this temporary pointer to the called procedure.

Subject: OpenDir

Hi
I have such prototype for opendir

d OpenDir pr * ExtProc( 'opendir' )
d Name * Value
d Options( *String )

d PN c '/QDLS/SAGAN/'
d Null c x'00'
d PathName S 50a

Why I can open dir with this statements
c Eval PathName = '/QDLS/SAGAN/' +Null
c Eval dh = OpenDir( PathName )
c Eval dh = OpenDir( PN )
c Eval dh = OpenDir( '/QDLS/SAGAN/' )

but not with this
c Eval PathName = '/QDLS/SAGAN/'
c Eval dh = OpenDir( PathName )

Shouldn't option *String put *Null after PathName?
Why this allow to do it with PN?

TIA

Marcin Sagan
