... and the RPG manual says that if you want real information in the INFDS
on a file which may be blocked you should use an OVRDBF to turn off

Alexei, coding an INFDS does not inhibit blocking.  The INFDS is updated
only after each block is read or written.  In fact, explicitly requesting
feedback (POST operation) can improve performance somewhat, since a POST
operation will cause the feedback areas in the INFDS to be updated only
on a POST, not after each I/O.
