Title: RE: data structure length problem

You can also increase the GENLVL parameter to 11 which will allow complilation.

Hi Sean

I'm fairly new here myself - it's good to *see a familiar face* from the
linux5250 list :-)

You can do this in RPG III by defining the 801 length for the data
structure itself, rather than on a subfield. Then define each of the
subfields below. As long as each 'field' in your format is 256 or less
you should be okay. You might want to look at externally defined data
structures, with an E in front of the DS, and the external file they
map to after the DS. It doesn't have to be the same file you're writing
to, just as long as it has the structure you want. RPG IV handles much
bigger fields, so will cope with your original layout.
