Yes, we are using AS/400 so, especially for the cases as Disk Fail and so on.
 
We have a program, which is reading QSYSOPR MSGQ and look for specific messages, then it uses SMTP server to send a SMS as e-mail to our phones. If you'd like to, you can take a look to the news/400 archives and find there a program for sending e-mails. Or you can use SNDDST if you have your SMTP server and DIRE configured correctly.
