OH MY GOD IT @#$@!$%^ WORKS!  Almost.

When I attempt to compile an RPG program with a logical file using this approach, the compile fails on a severity 40 - it doesn't like the duplicate record format.  I tried this before and gave up after the compile failed.

BUT...  When I tell the compile that it's OK to create the program at a level 40 error, the program actually works!

So.... how do I get RPG to stop complaining about the LF?

Here is my test:  does this tell you all you want to know?

Yes - this works fine in COBOL.

PF - FILEA:
R REC1
  FLD1          10

PF - FILEB:
R REC1
  FLD1          10

LF - FILEAB:
                             UNIQUE
 R REC1                      PFILE(FILEA FILEB)
 K FLD1
