No you do not need to have a subfile!

Just need to chain using a RRN!

But how do you know the RRN? We know by reading a logical by one non-unique
key and saving the RRN of the retrieved records, hidden in the subfile that
holds the selection of records that the user requested. This load can be
done via a logical or SQL or QPNQRYF. But to update/delete one of these
records we chain back to the non-keyed physical by RRN.

Am I getting it right ?
So to read/chain a non keyed file by RRN ,I have to use a subfile ?
If yes ,I feel it is better to use SQL or OPNQRYF.
