There is a really cool feature called Data Transformation Services (DTS) in
Microsoft Sql server. I use this to transfer the data between AS400 and Sql
Server.

DTS is basically a wizard type of thing. You must enter where the data
coming from & the data  going to ( could be as400, sql server, access,
oracle etcc...) and also specify what type of connection you are using. In
the connection type you can specify whether its a ODBC or OLEDB connection
type.

OLEDB is a nothing but a free driver thats available with your client
access express.

I never had any kind of data type errors between sql server & as400 and
find it very easy to work with, especially when you deal with data residing
in two different machines.
