Two reasons:

1.) IBM is so committed to it that they will probably get the performance
issues worked out and everyone else won't, and

2.) From what I read in non-IBM journals, JAVA seems to already be starting
to fragment into many "house flavors".  That's probably the kiss of death.
The rest of the world is already moving on the next cure-all buzzword,
Linux, and I see all the same claims being made about it that they were
making about JAVA two years ago.

Nothing factual here, of course, just that uneazy feeling that we've been
here before.
