RE: Query/400 to RPG program

Thanks for your responses. I like the querys, but there are a few they take
an hour or more to run to run and hog up a lot of resources. Others have to
have new parameters entered every time they are requested(which the MIS dept
is responsible for). Maybe Im missing something( I am very green to rpg)..is
there a way for query/400 to prompt for parameters?

However we HAD an employee here that wasn't capable of writing a program
that couldn't have been easily handled by Query.  He refused to learn Query.
I wish him luck in his new endeavor.

Why would you want to get rid of the querys? Are they doing the job they
were
designed for?. Without knowing the size of your orginization, it's hard to
say wether that is a lot of querys or not. Unless they're real system hogs,
a
query is a quick and simple way to get a report to user. Most of the
companies I have worked have hundreds of queries on their system. The nice
thing about query is, with the right users you can even hand off some of the
more simpler report requests to them and spend more of your time on the
stuff
that really needs to get done. Why spend a couple of hours or more writing a
RPG report when in 15 minutes you can handle the most typical report
requests?
