Displaying asterisks to show the number of characters entered in a password
field seems to be a very reasonable thing to me.  I mistype my password all
the time.  When I'm writing, I often type double letters as triple letters.
It's a security flaw, but it sure is convenient.  This sounds like something
that (gasp) a DDS keyword could solve.

I think it's an inherent defect in screen at a time I/O.  Don't want to
start a war, I know there are real avantages.  I've written one character at
a time screens before.  By the time you've built support for things like
insert, overstrike, home, and end....
