Could you use SQL? Perfect place for it. Set at a time processing. SQL is
available on every AS/400 even if you do not have the SQL Package.

Using only RPG, I would recommend you build a CL driver, issue an OPNQRYF to
select records, override data base to point to a file named input and call
your RPG to read all the records as Update, Primary. Then your program only
needs to change 'A' to 'X' and issue an update.

All of this is a lot of work vs. just using an UPDATE statement in SQL.

Subject: FW: update files

Hello,
I looking to update a data file with RPG. Normally I've been using
UPDDTA and changing the records, when required, but in this case there is
over 900 records that needed to be updated. My question is which command to
use, SETLL, READE or CHAIN. There are two things to look for in this file,
DTYPE
and DDSTAT. The DTYPE to look for is JRNL and the DDSTAT to look for is 'A'.
Both JRNL and 'A' need to be true then, change the 'A' to an 'X'.
Thanks for any advice,
Art
