Yes,   But for the data type you used to use(numeric)   000000 and 999999
Were also valid Numeric data in a Numeric field.

So in the past your "Reserved Values"(000000 999999)  were valid 
for the data type(numeric)

And now,   0001-01-01 & 9999-12-31  are valid for the data type(Date)
