M,

The main drawback is that most people use JNI to improve performance. Unless
you are calling a long running RPG function you will do a lot of work to make
your
program run slower. There is a redbook that covers some of the issues, it is
sg24-2163-02.

Indications from our personnel who have attended/received information from
Rochester about JNI is:

"Don't use JNI"
"Only use JNI as a last resort"
"There are problems with memory management between Java and other languages when
using JNI"

Is this true? I hope not. The comments may have been directed at languages
other than ILE RPG, such as C, but we are not sure. Does anyone have any
accurate information about using JNI with ILE RPG and any known pitfalls?
