There is a DDS keyword "CHECK(VN)" that will check for a valid AS/400 object
name.

Subject: Validating a File name

Hi,

I'm currently working on a program that requires the user to input a file
name
via a display file, in which to store data produced by a program. (This file
can
later be used for transfer to a PC).

The problem I'm having at the moment is validating the name being input as
being
in an acceptable name format for the AS/400. I've looked at a CL program to
CHKOBJ and MONMSG where the name is not valid, but can't help thinking there
must be another way. Would any API be applicable?

I appreciate any help you can give on the subject

Graham Bailey
