Ron,

Just a guess, but are you using RSTDSP(*YES) or are you actually doing a
programmed redisplay of the initial screen?

As a shop standard we use RSTDSP(*NO) for performance reasons and control.   
IMO,
any time a display defers control to another program, upon return, all bets are
off and the display must be repopulated with data and conditional display
indicators reset.

Even if you turn off an indicator upon return, the display will not alter until
another WRITE/EXFMT is executed.
