Raul,

I guess everyone does this their own way, but one thing to watch out 
for (at least on our systems) is that you have to specify 0 rather than 
*ZEROS or *ZERO.  For example:

eval %len(field) = 0                   this works
eval %len(field) = *ZEROS    does not work

I believe this is a bug, not a big deal, but it took a while to figure out.  
The only way I found out was that I mentioned this to someone who 
insisted that this works.

If you intend to clear whatever was in the varlen, CLEAR may be your
best option. It will also set the lenght to ZERO.
