How about:  A = *same + 1
It is longer to code but it is looks like an RPG-syntax,
and I think it is clear to almost everyone what it means.
You then could insert the *same-word anywhere in
the expression, as many times you wish.  
If you use long varible names it could be an alternative.

I still want the  A+=1  to work, though.
I mean the *same-word as an alternative.
