Only 200/300? What are you running, JDE? ;)

We had to do a major update to one of our plants that used our homegrown
software. This plant was overseas and was months behind, and a lot of pf
changes behind. Many more than 200/300 programs.

How did we do it? We saved the program library from our devolopement
machine, mailed the tape to them. Had them restore it to a different
library. Then, one sunday, we got onto their system, deleted the old
program library, renamed the new library to the old name, and ran DBUPD
(Database Update) on the updated DDS that was there. (DBUPD is one of my
shareware tools that reads DDS, compares against the live file, and if
needbe, does a CHGPF). The DBUPD took about 2 hours to run, and we only had
one file that we ran into problems with, which was easy to do by hand.

Total time, less that 5 hours counting saving, restoring, renaming, and
updating the databases. (shameless plug to DBUPD for this..hehe)

It's not hard to do this stuff, its time consuming. Sometimes ya gotta
"just do it". If the plant complains that they're 24-7 production, tough
cookies. Either shut down for 5 hours or keep the old stuff that may or may
not work.
