Jon,

I don't know which newsletters are the most read, etc. but overall they
seem like a very good value. My observation is that for a beginner -
intermediate they are an excellent value. We have been receiving the Java
newsletters from News/400 and Midrange Computing since they came out
and I am certain they have saved us over 50 hours and given us easy to
digest examples that we could actually use and improve.

One of the reasons for the existence of the RPG Source was that the main
magazine was considered by many readers (including me) to be becoming too
esoteric and "latest / greatest / sexiest" oriented at the expense of solid
technical info that applied to today. The magazine didn't want to change, so
Gary persuaded them to try a newsletter format. Much of the risk in launching
the newsletter was Gary's now Duke's and I commend him for the work he has done.
I suspect that it is the only one of their newsletters to really make any money
but I don't know that - I'm forwarding this note and the original to Gary and
will post any response I receive.
